Istituto Tecnico Statale CARLO CATTANEO (Italy)

Istituto Tecnico “Carlo Cattaneo” was established in 1963. It is a secondary technical school located in San Miniato (Tuscany). Circa 900 students aged 14-19 attend our school. There are about 109 teachers, 26 technical assistants, secretaries and caretakers operating here. Our students attend the school for five years and next they can either go to the university or look for a job.

On the other hand important and relevant occasions for the educational growth are represented from the development of the touristic activities, which aim to highlight environmental and cultural resources in San Miniato and in the areas around it.  Besides, the presence of a Bank center, part of an important international corporation, contributes to the relevant importance of San Miniato in the area.

The school participates in a project called Avanguardie Educative, a cultural movement for the Educational and Organizational Transformation of the Italian School, which promotes innovative teaching and learning methodologies such as flipped classroom, debate and cooperative learning.

There are four courses in our educational offer:  Administration, Finance and Marketing course, the International Relations for Marketing course, the Tourism course and the Chemistry and Materials course.

The school is located in an industrial area, famous for its tanneries and factories producing leather goods, so a lot of people from abroad and other Italian regions come here looking for a job.

The school has developed, since its foundation, an intense and constant relationship with its territory, through a continuous search for collaboration with institutions and local cultural associations, educational resources, social and economic stakeholders.

The educational offer and the study courses and experiences reflect the development of its social reality and productive vocations of the Lower Valdarno area.

It coincides in large part with the industrial tanning district, consisting of a complex of medium and small sized companies, with a large number of employees, with a production mainly directed towards the foreign market.
